Privacy Notice
Last updated October 13, 2026
Hopshelf is a personal beer shelf for adults of legal drinking age. Your beers, photos and notes are kept on your phone first and can be backed up to an account. This notice explains what is stored, where, and who processes it. flapp.studio is responsible for this data. The waitlist on this website has its own notice.
Your account
The first time you open Hopshelf, it creates an anonymous account so you can start straight away. If you choose to keep your shelf safe across devices, you can link that account to Apple or Google. We receive the identifier your provider gives us, and your email address or name if you allow it to share them. The sign-in is shared with other flapp.studio apps, so deleting your Hopshelf account removes Hopshelf’s data but keeps that shared sign-in (see “Deleting your data” below).
What we store
Your beers and their details (name, brewery, style, strength, volume and other facts you or the app filled in), your ratings, notes, tasting dates and favourites, your collections, tags and shelf settings, and your photos. Photos of packaging and optional memory photos are compressed on your phone and kept in a private store that only your account can read. A copy of your shelf is cached on your phone so it works offline. Your notes never appear on share cards.
Camera and photos
Hopshelf asks for camera access only when you start to photograph a beer, and for photo access only when you choose a picture. It never reads your other photos. When the label is read automatically, the app crops the label area from your photo on your phone to use as artwork. If that doesn’t work, the original photo is kept.
Reading the label (Google Gemini)
Automatic recognition uses Google Gemini, an AI service provided by Google LLC. Before the first automatic reading, the app asks for your agreement and names Google Gemini. If you don’t agree, you can add beers by hand. When you agree and add a beer automatically, the compressed front and optional back photo of the packaging are sent through our server to Google Gemini, which returns the label details it can read. We don’t send your notes, ratings, memory photos or anything else. You check and edit the result before it is saved.
We use Google’s paid Gemini API. Under its terms, Google doesn’t use these photos to train or improve its products. It may keep them for a limited time to detect abuse.
Purchases
Packs of automatic additions and Premium are handled by the App Store or Google Play. The store processes your payment, and RevenueCat checks which purchases belong to your account. We keep a record of your purchases and additions so they stay correct if you restore or change phone. We never see your payment details.
Share cards and export
When you share a poster, the app makes an image on your phone and hands it to the share sheet. What you do with it is up to you. You can also export your collection as a file with its photos; it goes only where you choose to save or send it.
Usage statistics
Optional, and off unless you turn it on. If enabled, we use PostHog to count how the app is used, such as whether a beer was saved. These events are linked to your account’s random identifier. They never include photos, notes, labels or receipts. There is no advertising, no advertising ID and no tracking across other companies’ apps or websites.
Who processes your data
Supabase (Supabase, Inc.) hosts the account database, the private photo store and the server functions, in the EU (Frankfurt). Google Gemini (Google LLC) reads label photos as described above. RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.) handles purchase status. PostHog (PostHog, Inc., EU cloud) handles optional usage statistics. Apple and Google provide sign-in and the stores. Some of these are US companies, so their staff may access data from outside the EU, covered by their data processing agreements and the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. They process data only on our behalf, except Apple and Google for their own services.
How long we keep data
Your beers, notes, the packaging photo used as each beer’s artwork, and memory photos are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Back-of-pack photos are used only for reading the label. They are deleted when you save the beer. Photos from additions you didn’t finish, and packaging photos that aren’t used as artwork, are deleted within 7 days. Optional usage statistics are kept by PostHog for up to 12 months. Records of purchases and of the automatic additions you were given are kept for as long as accounting and tax law requires, so purchases can be restored and refunds handled.
Deleting your data or your account
Open Profile → “Your data”. There are two options:
- Delete this app’s data permanently removes your beers, notes and photos from your phone and our servers. Your Hopshelf account stays.
- Delete account also deletes your Hopshelf account and revokes Hopshelf’s Sign in with Apple access, then signs you out. The app confirms when it is done.
Either way, we keep the minimal purchase records described above. The sign-in shared with other flapp.studio apps is kept so those apps keep working. To have that shared sign-in removed too, email hello@flapp.studio. Hopshelf has no subscriptions; your purchases stay with your App Store or Google Play account. Deleting the app alone removes only what is on the phone. You can also ask us to delete your data by emailing hello@flapp.studio.
Withdrawing consent
You can withdraw consent at any time in Profile → “Your data”. Switch off “Automatic label reading” to stop sending photos to Google Gemini; you can still add beers by hand. Switch off “Optional analytics” to stop usage statistics. Withdrawing doesn’t affect processing that already happened.
Your rights
You can see, correct, export and delete your data in the app. For anything else, email hello@flapp.studio. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Age
Hopshelf is about alcoholic and alcohol-free beer and is for adults of legal drinking age. It isn’t directed at children and doesn’t knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes
If this notice changes in a way that matters, we’ll update the date above and, where needed, tell you in the app.
