Privacy Notice
Last updated September 30, 2026
Unpile is built to keep your thoughts yours. There's no account, and we never ask for your name, email, location, contacts or photos. Your tasks live on your phone. This notice explains what the app sends, to whom, and why. flapp.studio is responsible for this data.
What stays on your device
Your tasks, their steps and notes, your Today plan, streak and day history, focus sessions, settings (rest days, focus hours, review and reminder times, your onboarding answers) and unsaved dump drafts. They're stored in the app on your phone, not on our servers; the only parts that leave your phone are the texts you send for AI processing, described below. Drafts are deleted when you save or discard them, or after 7 days.
Voice: when you talk, your phone's own speech recognition (Apple's on iPhone, Google's on Android) turns it into text on the device. The app requires on-device recognition, so the recording never leaves your phone and isn't stored.
AI processing of your text
When you finish a brain dump, paste a list, import reminders or ask to split a task, the app sends that text to our server: the words of your dump (or the titles of the reminders you picked), or the task title and its notes, plus the focus you chose in setup (work, study, life admin or a mix). Our server runs on Google Cloud (Firebase) in the EU, in Belgium. It passes the text to Anthropic, our AI provider, which returns suggested tasks or steps.
We don't store your text on our server and we don't log it; we only log that a request happened, how long it took and how much AI capacity it used. Anthropic processes the text on our behalf under its commercial terms: it doesn't use it to train its models, and it keeps it only for a limited time, for example to detect abuse. Anthropic is based in the US, so your text is processed there; the transfer is covered by standard contractual clauses.
If the AI can't be reached, the app splits your text on the phone instead, and later sends just those task titles to fill in time and energy guesses. Brain dumps can contain personal things, so only include what you're comfortable sending for processing.
Anonymous ID and usage limits
To protect the AI service from abuse, the app signs in to Firebase with a random anonymous ID (no name or email) and uses Firebase App Check to confirm requests come from the real app. For that ID our server keeps a small usage record: whether you've used your free setup dump and split, and how many AI requests you made today. It contains none of your text.
Anonymous usage analytics
We use PostHog (servers in the EU) to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. The app sends events such as finishing onboarding steps, starting a brain dump (voice, typed, pasted or imported), how many tasks a dump produced (as a range), swipe directions, starting or finishing a first step, streak and review milestones, whether a permission was allowed, and paywall or purchase steps.
Each event includes the app version, platform, basic device and operating system details, a random session ID and a random anonymous ID created by the app. We never send the text of your dumps, tasks or steps, and we don't record your screen or taps.
Purchases
Purchases go through the App Store or Google Play. We use RevenueCat to check whether you have Unpile Plus. RevenueCat receives your anonymous Firebase ID and your purchase history from the store, and our server asks RevenueCat about that ID before allowing AI requests. We never see your payment details.
Reminders and notifications
On iPhone you can import from Apple Reminders. With your permission the app reads your open reminders on the device; only the titles of the ones you choose are sent for AI processing as described above. Nothing in Reminders is changed.
Morning nudges and evening review reminders are scheduled on your device. There's no push server and no reminder data leaves your device. You can turn them off in Settings at any time.
What we don't do
We don't sell data, we don't show ads, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't use advertising IDs.
Why we can use it
Sending your text for AI processing, the usage record and purchase checks are needed to provide the app you asked for. Analytics are based on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it, using only anonymous data.
How long we keep it
Your text isn't kept on our server. The usage record is deleted when you use Delete all my data, and otherwise after 90 days without AI use. Analytics events are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted. Purchase records are kept by RevenueCat and the stores for as long as they are needed for your purchase and for legal reasons.
Your choices and rights
Settings → Delete all my data deletes your tasks and settings from this device, deletes the usage record on our server and your anonymous Firebase ID, and makes the app create a new anonymous analytics ID the next time it starts, so later events can't be linked to earlier ones. It doesn't cancel a subscription. Deleting the app also removes everything it stored on your phone.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the use of data about you, and to complain to your data protection authority. Because the data is anonymous we may not be able to find it, but we'll help where we can: email hello@flapp.studio.
Children
Unpile isn't directed at children and is meant for people aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If we change what the app collects or who processes it, we'll update this notice and the date above before the change ships.
